While our printer provides a scratch-resistant & fade-resitant final product without lamination, we believe that adding that extra security of a lamination will keep your plate looking brand new for MANY years to come.
We offer 3 options; None, Gloss, & Matte
We'll show you the differences below.
If you're unsure of what style to pick, I've provded a few samples from past customers below.
Think of lamination like a ClearBra or PPF that you'd add to your car's paint.
NO LAMINATION - This is the way the print comes off of the printer. We print on gloss reflective material, but the latex ink gives a semi-gloss/satin appearance. You will notice that where there is no ink or light ink, it may appear glossier than the darker parts. This is letting the vinyl show through, so you'll have an uneven finish with this option as well. No Lamination will also not protect against heavy solvents used in some car washes/soaps. It will also tend to stain faster from things such as dirt, exhaust (especially Diesel soot), sun fading, etc. You can clean this option with a soft cloth and dish soap /water. I DO NOT recommend using anything stronger as you run the risk of physically scratching the ink off of the vinyl or dissolving it with a chemical.
GLOSS LAMINATION - This option is the closest to your US issued plate. It's done with the same processes and materials that most states use to make their plates. Gloss Lamination isn't super shiny and often it is even hard for me to tell the difference from a Non-Laminated plate from a few feet away. This option adds a UV protection as well as another layer to help protect against scratches and staining. You can use pretty much anything you'd clean your car with to clean this finish. You can even use the wheel brush at the car wash!
MATTE LAMINATION - While this option might not be exactly like your US issued plate, it is a customer favorite still. This is my personal favorite look from a product standpoint. Matte Lamination lets you view the plate from pretty much 180 degrees. It stops the glare and actually magnifies the reflective properties of the vinyl. Matte also provides the same cleanability as Gloss, although I recommend staying away from Matte if you have a sooty diesel exhaust, because it's not as easy to clean the tiny surface ridges that give the matte appearance. It will still clean up and protect just as well, it just may stain easier over time.
Just treat your new plate like you do your car's paint and that will help protect it as long as possible. Avoid using a pressure washer directly near the edges of the plate to avoid any water lifting the edges.
